Diary, 1851.

Blake's diary is an account of his familial, social, and business life in Boston, Newton, and Worcester during 1851. Within the daily entries are contained his personal thoughts, political opinions, and religious beliefs. Blake summarized and commented on the many sermons he attended and his favorite ministers were Daniel Little Furber and Edward Everett Hale. The diary reveals Blake as a contemplative young man who enjoyed reading and writing in his library. His intimate friendship with Nathaniel Scudder Wycokoff Vanderhoef and his betrothed, Mary Elizabeth Blauvelt, is also recorded.
